Summary and Suggestions

A. Purpose of Practicum

     Sea teacher is a student exchange program for teaching practice in ASEAN countries. The aim of Sea teacher is to provide opportunities to experience teaching practices in neighboring countries, namely ASEAN countries.

    For me, purpose of the practicum is to practice teaching and teaching skills.  Providing opportunities for students, especially the education department to be able to add insight and increase teaching skills.  As well as making students more active in speaking English. As well as providing opportunities for students to gain teaching experience and introduce culture in their respective countries.

B. Procedure of Practicum

   Sea teacher program is conducted for 1 month.  The first week I made observations in class.  Paying attention to how the teacher teaches, paying attention to the atmosphere in the classroom and getting to know the character of students in the classroom.

  On the second week I became a teacher's assistant.  I help the teacher in the class, helping the teacher check student assignments, help the teacher manage the class and make a teaching plan.

  On the third week I am teaching practice. And on the fourth week I am back as an assistant teacher.

C. Outcomes of Practicum

    The outcomes of practicum when attending this sea teacher are as follows.

1. I gained experience and increased my knowledge on how to teach. 
2. My teaching skills have been honed even more.  
3. I can increase my knowledge about the curriculum and teaching plan in the Philippines.  
4. Adding my insight about the culture that exists in the Philippines.
5. I can introduce my culture internationally.  
6. I am more enthusiastic and confident in speaking English.

D.The Challenges of Practicum

    At first I was shy and lacked confidence when I spoke English.  When I joined the sea teacher program, of course my biggest challenge was when I had to talk to everyone in the Philippines in full English.

    Then, teaching students who are not from my country is also a challenge for me.  I should try to get to know students more because I am a new person, it is also a challenge for me.

     Then, introducing Indonesian culture to the international sphere is also a challenge for me.

     And, I am a Muslim.  When everyone asks about the head covering that I use or the always closed clothes that I always wear, I feel it's a challenge.  Because I have to answer all questions as well as possible, and explain in detail about it, because Muslims are my identity.

E. Overall impression

    The Filipino people especially the CPU people are very kind, considerate and friendly.  The teachers and students were very friendly to me, who was new to them.  Like the teachers who will always help me when I have difficulty when making a teaching plan, always happy to explain again if I do not understand something.  as well as students who always try to understand whatever I say to them.

   I want to say thank you for the people who were on the CPU and CPU Elementary School for being very kind to me, receiving me kindly, always helping me, looking after me, and loving me like family. Maraming salamat Po.. Mahal kita.. ❤❤ and Namiss ko kamo.. 😭❤❤ :))

   I want to say thank you too for SEAMEO, for giving me the opportunity to achieve one of my dreams, which is to exchange students abroad.  I want to say thank you for SEAMEO because this program gives me a lot of experience.  I can also feel how to teach in other countries, so that I can add to my teaching skills.  I am more confident, independent and increasingly add to my enthusiasm to learn to be a good teacher.

F. Suggestions for future improvement

   From me for the CPU, it should be provided by a friend to us exchange students, sometimes we need something or want to ask small things and trivial things while living on the CPU.  And when we were there, we also wanted new friends who were our age to be able to hang out together.  Hehehe.. 🤭😅😄 :D ;))

   From me to SEAMEO, hopefully sea teacher will become better and more famous throughout ASEAN, so that more universities in the ASEAN region will join this program.  So that it can add opportunities to someone who has the same dream as me.
